About Jenny Roberts — LCPC-c
Jenny’s journey in mental health began thirty years ago while teaching Spanish in Colorado. She realized her underlying passion for helping students and families communicate in Spanish as well as English. This sparked her to pursue a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology and Counselor Education from the University of Colorado. She returned to public schools to work with students as a bilingual high school counselor in Denver, before moving to Camden, Maine in 2000.
While raising two daughters, Jenny worked as a school counselor in Camden, Appleton, and then Islesboro, serving students of all ages and their families. While completing her internships at Maine Behavioral Health in Rockland and MaineGeneral Health’s Intensive Outpatient Program in Augusta, she was able to offer psychotherapy to individuals and groups using DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and Psycho-education. She currently works as a clinician at Atlantic Academy in Camden.
As her daughters pursue their own futures, Jenny anticipates the unfolding of an exciting and creative journey practicing psychotherapy, and working with children, adolescents and adults. She believes we each have our own individual stories and unique experiences in which we face a number of challenges. In her practice she offers a space for those wishing to explore issues, develop skills, and heal past injuries.
Incorporating her joy of movement and adventure, Jenny believes health is holistic—combining physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual well-being and balance. She loves to surround herself with nature through hiking with her sweet dog Nala, skiing, and gardening. She practices yoga and will soon be a Reiki master, believing in the energy and light within us all.
In accordance with her holistic view of mental health, Jenny uses a combination of therapeutic techniques including: DBT, Mindfulness, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Art Therapy, Play Therapy and Adventure Therapy.
