Art therapy is the practice of using art making materials and processes to express your thoughts, feelings and experiences to better understand yourself and the impact of your experiences past and present. It can be particularly helpful when someone is unable to find the words to talk about what is troubling them. Art therapy is effective alleviating symptoms of depression and anxiety and in recovering from loss and trauma. Art therapy can be used with children, adolescents and adults, and with individuals, groups and families. Many therapists integrate art therapy activities into talk therapy sessions.
